(Palos Heights, Ill.) A slow start on the road for the Saints on Saturday afternoon found them trailing early against the Trolls of Trinity Christian College. Despite a solid performance from Yama Kader (Mission Viejo, Cali.), the Saints were unable to come back and dropped their fourth straight contest 75-67.
Michael Anderson (Indianapolis, Ind.) gave the Saints an early five point lead before an ensuing 11-to-0 run by the Trolls changed the tempo of the game. The Saints were able to respond and cut their deficit to just four points before the Trolls, once again, went on a 12-to-2 run that found the Saints trailing 28-14 with just over five minutes left in the half.
Missed opportunities down the stretch allowed the Trolls to cling to a 12 point first half advantage at 38-26.
Ten second chance points, paired with poor shooting (9-for-26) by the Saints, allowed Trinity Christian to capitalize on missed opportunities. The Saints were outrebounded 24-to-14, 9 of those being offensive rebounds.
The Saints offense in the second half was much more in sync and they were able to cut the deficit to four points with 9:24 remaining in the game.
Trinity Christian, led by B.J. Wortham, extended the lead once again to double figures before Brandon Evans (Grand Rapids, Mich.) an 8-to-1 Saints run which cut the Trolls lead to just 3 with 1:42 left to play.
A three-pointer by Tyler Brunschon, followed by a Saints turnover, allowed the Trolls to knock down free-throws over the last minute to put the Saints away 75-67 for their fourth straight loss.
Yama Kader scored 12 of his team high 18 points in the second half and was one of three Saints players to reach double-figure scoring. Parker Dominguez (Santa Clarita, Cali.) finished with a team high 11 rebounds.
B.J. Wortham and Tyler Brunschon combined for 39 of the Trolls 75 points.
The loss for the Saints splits the season series between the two schools at 1-1.
Since returning in 2013, the Saints have struggled to find the win column as they've dropped six of their last seven contests.
