Jacob ‘Jake' Baranek has signed with the Holy Cross College golf team. A graduate of Archbishop Hoban High School in Akron, Ohio, Baranek has been playing golf since he was ten years old.
He was an honors student as well as a varsity letterman all through high school in addition to being the team MVP his junior year and team captain junior and senior year. Furthermore, Baranek played varsity tennis his senior year and basketball freshmen and sophomore years.
Baranek had been a longtime fan of the movie ‘Rudy', which was his initial interest in Holy Cross College. However, once he visited the school "I found out Holy Cross has a lot of opportunities other colleges can't offer" says Baranek, "I am really excited and am definitely looking forward to the upcoming year, I have always wanted to play at the college level!" Jared Sawyer, a recent graduate and the first student to be signed to the golf team, assisted in helping Baranek decide to commit to Holy Cross College. Nathan Walker, athletic director, says "Although Jake will be a first-year student at Holy Cross, he will called upon for his leadership and skill to be one of our top golfers."
