(Notre Dame, Ind.) The Holy Cross Saints women's basketball program is pleased to announce the signing of local prospect Shelby Nelson of Mishawaka High School for the 2013-2014 season.

Nelson recently completed her senior season at Mishawaka helping guide the team to a 21-4 overall record while averaging 7.8 points per game and 6.4 rebounds per game.

"Shelby is such a high character and overall great kid," said Mishawaka head coach Kevin Gradeless. "She's not only a very skilled athlete, but is one of the hardest workers in the gym. Shelby will be a great asset to an already impressive program at Holy Cross."

Besides being named a 2nd Team All-Conference member in basketball, Shelby is the National Honor's Society Treasurer, as well as a member of both Student Council and Spanish Club. Nelson was also named a Scholar Athlete.

"We're extremely excited to welcome Shelby to the Holy Cross program," said Saints head coach Aimee Niespodziany. "She's a great person, student and player. We expect her to help us become more competitive in our conference next season with her versatility, athleticism and soft touch around the basket."

Shelby will graduate from Mishawaka High School this coming June. The daughter of Daniel Nelson and Michele Baker, Shelby is currently undecided on what she'd like to major in in college.

On behalf of the Athletics Department, we'd like to congratulate Shelby on her achievement and welcome her to the Holy Cross Saints family!
