Women's Basketball - Thu, Apr. 30, 2009
(Notre Dame, IN) Tanesha Varnado (Markham, IL) and Jalisa Edwards (Hyde Park, IL) of South Suburban Community College have decided to continue their collegiate careers at Holy Cross College in Notre Dame, IN. The two transfers are just the latest in what has been an already exciting recruiting season for the women's basketball program.

Varnado and Edwards are the 8th and 9th players to sign with the team for the inaugural season. The two women will bring leadership and college experience to a team filled with freshmen. Varnado believes that her experience at the Junior College level has helped her prepare for the next level of basketball. "Playing at the junior college level was just the first stepping stone to getting to the next level," said Tanesha. "It was nothing like high school, not even close. It was hard work and the players were bigger and better." The 5'7'' guard averaged 7.6 points per game and 1.7 steals per game.

Much like Varnado, Edwards believes that playing at the junior college level will help her transition to the next level of play. "Junior College basketball is a high tempo game," said Edwards. "I don't think I could have been better prepared any other way." Jalisa is another 5'7'' guard. She averaged 7.6 points per game and led the team in 3 point field goals (52).

Both women are also looking forward to the experiential academic challenges that Holy Cross offers. Varnado plans on studying either psychology or communications, while Jalisa plans on earning her degree in business.
