(South Bend, Ind.) The Holy Cross Saints women's golf team continued their spring season in nearby South Bend, Ind. after taking part in the 2013 Pilot Spring Invitational hosted by Bethel College at Blackthorn Golf Club. After the two day event, the Saints finished with a sixth place finish out of seven teams.
The Saints opened up round one of the Invitational with a team score of 392. Sarah Hartle (Warsaw, Ind.) paved the way for the Saints with a team-low round of 87. Kelly Murphy (Youngstown, Ohio) contributed with a 99 while Victoria Anania (Charleston, SC) and Kendra Luckey (Danville, Ind.) chipped in with a 100 and 106 respectively.
After day one, the Saints sat in sixth place.
The Saints improved their day one score on day two by 13 strokes with a 379 to hold strong in sixth place.
Sarah Hartle matched her team-low round one score in round two with an 87 giving here a tournament total of 174 and a tie for 11th place individually.
Victoria Anania took five strokes off of her round one score for a 95 in round two and tournament total of 195. Anania finished the tournament with a 27th place individual finish.
Kelly Murphy scored a 101 in round two to give herself a tournament total of 200. Murphy finished the tournament at 29th individually.
Rounding out the Saints, Kendra Luckey saw the biggest improvement from day one to day two after shaving off ten strokes for a round two score of 96. Luckey finished the tournament with a 202 and 30th individual finish.
The host Bethel College Pilots took home first place with a tournament total of 643. All five Pilot golfers finished in the top six individually.
"It was a tough tournament with a lot of good programs," coach Holt said. "I was proud of the girls being able to improve their team score by thirteen strokes in round two. We have a big tournament coming up this weekend that we will need to continue to prepare for."
The Saints will host the 2013 UAC Conference Championship on Friday and Saturday this week with the winning team receiving an automatic bid to nationals. The tournament will be hosted at Elbel Golf Course in St. Joseph, Ind.
