(South Bend, Ind.) The Holy Cross Saints men's golf team continued their strong 2013 campaign with a second place finish at the Pilot Spring Invitational hosted at Blackthorn Golf Club. The second place finish is the fifth top two finish for the Saints this season.

"It was a good showing for our guys in this tournament," coach Holt said. "We had three players finish in the top ten individually, and four of our six in top fifteen. This is a good performance to build off of as we prepare for the conference championship."

The Saints turned in an impressive tournament low team score of 298 in round one to hold a three stroke advantage on the host Betel College Pilots. Michael Fitzgerald (Flossmoor, Ill.) paved the way for the Saints with a day one low score of 71. Matthew Code (Belleville, Ontario, Canada) followed with a day one score of 74. Cody Richardson (Howe, Ind.), Chris Noble (Niles, Mich.) and Mike Prior (Schoolcraft, Mich.) also scored in the seventies for the Saints. Richardson finished with a 76, Noble with a 77 and Prior with a 79. Freshman Michael Bush (Schoolcraft, Mich.) closed out the Saints round one with an 83.

A day two score of 310 from the Saints was enough for the host Pilots to pass them up to overtake first place for the tournament. The score of 310 was the third best score of the day, however, the Saints held on to finish the tournament in second place.

Chris Noble posted a team-low 76 in round two for a total of 153 and a tie for 7th place individually. Michael Fitzgerald and Matthew Code each scored a round two score of 77 giving Fitzgerald a tournament total of 148 and a 2nd place individual finish. Code finished the tournament with a 151 and a 6th place individual finish.

Freshman Cody Richardson closed out the tournament with a day two score of 80 giving him a tournament total of 156 and a tie for 13th individually. Mike Prior, too, closed out the round with an 80 giving him a total of 159 and tie for 23rd individually. Rounding out the Saints, freshman Michael Bush finished the tournament with a round two score of 84 and tournament total of 167. Bush finished with a tie for 47th individually.

With the latest finish, the Saints have now finished in the top five in eight of their nine tournaments this season.

The Saints will return to action beginning on April 22nd for a two-day event at Balmoral Woods Country Club in Crete, Ill. for the 2013 Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) Championship. The winner of the tournament will advance to nationals.
