(Notre Dame, Ind.) The Holy Cross department of athletics is pleased to announce the hiring of Brian Pearison to coach the men's and women's cross country teams beginning in the fall of 2013.
"Brian's energy, enthusiasm and understanding of Holy Cross College will help drive our athletic program in a positive direction," said Holy Cross Director of Athletics Aimee Niespodziany. "His knowledge of Holy Cross and what we have to offer will be a great strength as he recruits student athletes for our newly added cross country program. Being a former runner himself, he has a background in the sport and I believe he will do a great job. We look forward to Brian being on board."
A familiar face to Holy Cross, Brian most recently wrapped up his third year as an assistant coach on the Holy Cross men's basketball staff.
A 1998 graduate of Jimtown High School, coach Pearison began his cross country running career at Niles High School where he was a varsity runner from his freshman through junior years. Prior to his senior year, Pearison transferred to Jimtown High School where he finished third place in the conference during that season.
In addition to being named the head men's and women's cross country coach, Pearison will serve as the Assistant Pfeil Center Manager and the new Director of Intramurals.
"It's a tremendous opportunity to not only help bring back men's and women's cross country to Holy Cross College, but to continue to the development of the program," stated coach Brian Pearison. "I feel that with my enthusiasm and work ethic we will be able to steadily improve the program with quality student athletes."
Working in intramurals is nothing new to Pearison after spending three years helping out the intramural programs at Indiana University-South Bend.
"Intramurals is a great way to get the student body involved on campus," continued Pearison. "My goal is to continue to expand that here. After being involved with the intramurals at IUSB, I feel I have a good understanding of what needs to be done to help increase the desire for our student body."
After working part time with Holy Cross for the past three years, Pearison is excited to start the next chapter of his life as a full-time employee in athletics.
"It has been my goal to work full-time in athletics," continued Pearison. "I'm extremely honored and humbled to get an opportunity at a place I'm familiar with. It has taken a lot of hard work and sacrifice for me to achieve this. I will work diligently every day to do whatever I can to continue and expand the athletics department here at Holy Cross. I look forward to the opportunity and can't wait to get started."
Brian will graduate from Bethel College this May with a Bachelor's degree in Business. He and his wife, Renee, reside in Elkhart, Ind. with their son, Austin (12), and daughter Audrey (11).
On behalf of Holy Cross College, we'd like to welcome Brian Pearison to the athletics staff!
