(Notre Dame, Ind.) After wrapping up the most successful season in Holy Cross baseball history, head coach Brian Blondell has continued his strong recruiting efforts with two more prospects for the 2014 season. Jake Lanning and Rodney Bettcher join the Saints from Kankakee Community College, becoming the second and third players to commit to the Saints from KCC.

"We're excited about the additions of Jake and Rodney to our baseball team for next season," coach Blondell stated. "Jake is a switch hitting middle infielder/pitcher who will give us another good versatile piece to our current team. Rodney's ability to pitch in big games and get batters out will also help strengthen our depth on the mound. Both players are welcomed additions to our current roster."

As a freshman at Kankakee, Jake proved valuable as a solid two-way player for the Cavaliers. In 48 games during the 2012 season, Jake appeared in 48 games, while making 45 starts, while hitting .391 with sixteen doubles and thirty-five runs batted in. On the mound, Lanning posted a perfect 7-0 record with an earned run average of 3.90 and 32 strikeouts in 64.2 innings pitched.

This past season, his sophomore season, Lanning appeared in 54 games while compiling a batting average of .347. Lanning also hit seven doubles, one home run and drove in twenty-four runs. He also picked up a record of 5-1 on the mound with an earned run average of 2.63 and two complete games.

In eleven starts as a freshman, Bettcher (pictured above) compiled a season record of 5-2 in 2012 for the Cavaliers while posting an earned run average of 4.79. In his sophomore season, Bettcher appeared in six games while compiling a season record of 3-1 with an earned run average of 6.86. Bettcher also recorded one complete game in 21.0 innings pitched.

Lanning and Bettcher join fellow teammate Matt Schwitz as three members of the Kankakee Cavaliers to sign with the Saints for the 2014 season.

Congratulations to both Jake and Rodney on their decisions to continue their academic and baseball careers at Holy Cross College!
