(Notre Dame, Ind.) After wrapping up the 3rd annual Holy Cross athletic department golf outing last Friday, the department saw the best turn out in the brief three year history of the event. The outing is designed to help raise money for the annual end of the year athletics banquet to celebrate all of the athletes at the college. During the brief existence of the event, the department has seen a steady increase in participants beginning with 12 groups in year one, 15 in year two and 20 groups during the latest outing. The department also received their first corporate sponsor in event history with the help of Main Street Pub.
"I'm extremely pleased and proud of how well the outing went this year," stated Athletic Director Aimee Niespodziany. "I thought Main Street did a great job as our host sponsor with food and beverages. We're very thankful for all of their hard work throughout the course of this event.
"The weather for the outing couldn't have been more perfect," continued Niespodziany. "Elbel Park did another great job assisting us with everything we needed; their hospitality was second to none."
In the initial planning for the outing, the goal was to have a sponsor for each hole or 18 sponsors. Due to hard work from all parties involved in the process, we were able to exceed the goal and receive 20 sponsors.
"We were able to hit all of the goals we set out and even exceed on a number of them," said Niespodziany. "It's a true testament to everyone who was involved in the planning process. We not only developed plans to improve the event, but we went out and executed them."
The outing itself proved a very competitive field where every team shot at least an even par 72. Team Holt, consisting of Holy Cross golf coaches Tim Holt and T.J. Mannen, along with incoming golfers Ted Rider and Emily Duff, took home the victory.
The success of this years outing has Athletic Director Aimee Niespodziany excited about the future growth of the event.
"We've seen the outing continuously grow in the brief three year existence," Niespodziany said. "I think the sky's the limit for the future growth of the event. We're very lucky to have a great support staff and sponsorship group who continue to support our athletic programs. It's truly remarkable to see the growth we continue to make as a department."
On behalf of Holy Cross athletics, we'd like to thank everyone who participated in the 3rd annual golf outing. We'd also like to thank our sponsors, especially Main Street Pub, for helping make this event as successful as it was. We look forward to hopefully seeing you all again next summer!
