(Notre Dame, Ind.) First year head coach Mike McBride is pleased to announce that Karl Columbus (South Bend, Ind.) has signed to join the men's basketball program this upcoming season. Columbus joins the Saints after completing two seasons with Grace College (Ind.) in the Crossroads League.

"Karl is a welcomed addition to our program," stated coach McBride. "He was a starter on a very good team that advanced to the final four of the NAIA Championship last season and will really help our team with a solid overall player on the wing."

Columbus appeared in 26 games for the Lancers as a sophomore while making 23 starts. While logging 24.6 minutes per game, Columbus finished the season scoring 9.3 points per game on 47.4% shooting from the field. His rebound average of 4.7 was good enough for second on the team. Columbus also led the team in free-throw percentage at 84.8% (50-68).

In the 2013 NAIA National Tournament, Columbus eclipsed double figure scoring in all four games including an 18 point effort on 8-of-11 shooting to help send the Lancers to the semi-finals.

Columbus closed out his two seasons at Grace with 345 points in 51 career games.

A South Bend, Ind. native and Riley High School graduate, Columbus helped guide the Wildcats to an 18-6 record as senior and a share of the Northern Indiana Conference Championship as well as the Class 4-A Penn sectional title while averaging 13.7 ppg.

Columbus joins Drew Moore as the second recruit to join the Saints in the Mike McBride era.
