NOTRE DAME, Ind. -- Forty minutes was not enough time to decide the winner in the Holy Cross women's basketball Saturday afternoon at McKenna Arena. With the score tied at 67-67 at the end of regulation the Saints went to overtime for the first time in the 2013-2014 season, falling to the visiting Gray Wolves of Lourdes University 73-71.

A three-point shot from Kari Barnes (Fort Wayne, Ind.) to open up the second half gave the Saints a seven point lead. The Gray Wolves, however, continued to chip away at the Saints lead and pulled ahead by one with 17:21 to play in the game.

Senior Megan Eve (Scottsburg, Ind.) capped off a three-point play with 11:12 left in the game to put the Saints up five points but the Gray Wolves continued to hang around. With 7:31 left in the game the score was tied at 52-52.

With time continuing to tick away it was sophomore Kari Barnes who scored the final basket of the second half to tie it at 67-67 with 1:06 to play. Neither team was able to score over the final minute resulting in a five minute overtime period.

It was the Gray Wolves who struck first in the overtime session after Lauren Tilden knocked down the three-point shot. Following the basket from Tilden, both teams struggled to score. Holy Cross scored their first points in the session after a jumper from Mary Fitzgerald to make it a one point game.
