Matt Hunsberger - Head Coach

After interviewing several qualified candidates and fielding multiple resumes over a four month period, it was looking unlikely that Holy Cross would find a suitable coach to get the women's basketball program up and running.  While on a tour of the Pfeil Center, Chamber of Commerce member Phil Damico suggested Matt Hunsberger.  Nathan Walker, Athletic Director,  stated, "I was looking for a candidate with the right mixture of passion, knowledge, and character. Matt definitely has passion and knowledge, but it was his character and vision that excited me and made it clear that he was the coach that was going to develop this program."

Coach Hunsberger, originally from Mishawaka, Indiana, played basketball at Penn High School. Hunsberger started coaching women's basketball as an assistant at Granger Christian High School in 2002. After just one year, he took over as head coach and continued through the 2005 - 2006 season.

"I am very excited and thankful for the opportunity to coach the women's basketball team at Holy Cross," said Coach Hunsberger. "Coaching and influencing young lives through the game of basketball is one of my greatest passions."

Coach Hunsberger won the ACSI state championship in 2005 and again in 2006. The 2005 team also advanced to the final four of nationals in Erie, Pennsylvania. In 2007, Hunsberger took over the men's team at Granger Christian where he led them to the ACSI state championship. Matt accumulated 87 wins in his four seasons at Granger Christian.

Coach Hunsberger is still in the process of hiring an assistant. Hunsberger has been actively recruiting for the 2009 -2010 season.
