Leading the Saints in their first year as a varsity program is Steven Baumgartner. Coach Baumgartner has been involved with the men's basketball program since its inception in 2004. Baumgartner was a player for the first club team, and after one year he took over as head coach. Even though the team was considered club, they played ranked NAIA teams such as Bethel and Aquinas.

          "It was a natural fit," said Athletic Director Nathan Walker, "Steve has played an integral part with the development of the basketball program. I am confident and excited that he will do great things this year." "It's truly special to have had the opportunity, as a player, to be a part of the inaugural club team, and now to have the privilege to be the head coach as the team turns varsity," said Coach Baumgartner, "it is a blessing."Baumgartner is a 2007 graduate of Holy Cross where he received a Bachelors of Arts degree.
