Bio

Mike McBride returns for his 11th season as head coach of the Saints. With over 170 victories, he is the all-time wins leader at Holy Cross College. McBride led Holy Cross to its first-ever NAIA National Tournament and CCAC Conference Championship in 2020. For his efforts, he was recognized as the NAIA National Coach of the Year by the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC).

 

McBride, guided HCC to its first Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) regular-season crown in the 2019-2020 season. He directed the Saints to back-to-back NAIA National Tournament appearances in the 2019-2020 and 2020-2021 seasons. Holy Cross advanced to the Sweet-16 of the 2019-2020 National Tournament before it was cancelled due to Covid-19. That year, men's basketball ranked first in the nation in scoring defense allowed (63.7 points per game), fifth in total rebounds per game (30.7), and ninth in defensive FG percentage (40.8%). The Saints ended the season ranked No.10 in the final NAIA national poll. Coach McBride was awarded the 2019-2020 CCAC Coach of the Year.

 

Under coach McBride, the Saints have had 28 Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference All-Academic team members, three NAIA All-Americans, and 23 CCAC All-Conference Players.

McBride is the only coach in Holy Cross men’s basketball history to surpass 150+ victories, achieving that milestone in the 2021-2022 season. Under coach McBride, the Saints have averaged 18+ wins a season. Prior to McBride's arrival, the Holy Cross averaged just seven wins per season in program history.

 

McBride also serves as the Senior Associate Director of Athletics of Holy Cross College. He holds memberships in the National Association of Basketball Coaches and the Indiana Basketball Coaches Associations.

 

Coach McBride joined the Saints after his fifth season as the Associate Head Men's Basketball Coach at NCAA Div. 2 Tusculum College in Greenville, Tennessee. During his time at Tusculum, the team earned a national ranking and earned the school's first ever at-large berth in the NCAA Division II National Tournament.

 

Prior to coaching at Tusculum, McBride served as the Associate Head Coach at Indiana University Southeast in New Albany, Indiana from 2004-2007. During his three years at Indiana University Southeast, the program experienced the most successful three-year span in the history of IUS basketball. Over this period, they accumulated a record of 79-22, including two regular season and tournament titles in the Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. That success led to multiple appearances in the NAIA Division II National Tournament. During his three seasons at IUS, McBride mentored eight All-Conference selections.

 

In addition to coaching at the collegiate level, Coach McBride served as the Head Varsity Basketball Coach at Tipton High School in Indiana for four seasons where he took on the task of rebuilding the basketball program. During the 2001 season, he guided the Blue Devils to the Class 2A Taylor Sectional Championship; their first title in over a decade.

 

His first stint as a collegiate coach came at Eastern Kentucky University during the 1999-2000 season, preceded by three years as head boys' varsity coach at Eminence (Ind.) High School. From 1997-1999, he also served the dual role as basketball coach and athletic director.

 

The Jeffersonville, Indiana native played his collegiate career at Marian University where he was an All-Conference standout (1995-1996) and was twice named to the National Association of Basketball Coaches Honors Court (1994-1996). A 1996 graduate of Marian University, where he received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in English, McBride lettered three seasons with the Knights and served as team captain during his senior season.
