Saints Push Governors State to Overtime in 108–104 Battle

The Holy Cross College men's basketball team delivered a thrilling performance on Wednesday night, pushing Governors State into overtime before falling 108–104 in a tightly contested road matchup at the GSU ARC.

Holy Cross came out firing in the first half, shooting an impressive 60.6% from the field and knocking down eight three-pointers to build a 51–42 halftime lead. The Saints maintained their offensive rhythm in the second half, scoring 46 points and trading momentum with the Jaguars as the game featured 15 ties and 20 lead changes.

Joey Garwood led all scorers with a game-high 30 points, shooting an efficient 11-for-14 from the field and 5-for-6 from three-point range. AJ Roseman followed with 27 points, adding 6 assists and 5 rebounds, while Callaghan Weatherspoon stuffed the stat sheet with 19 points and a team-high 11 assists. Donovan Waleskowski also reached double figures, finishing with 12 points.

Despite Governors State forcing overtime, the Saints continued to battle in the extra period. Holy Cross was limited to 7 points in overtime, while the Jaguars capitalized late at the free-throw line to secure the win.

As a team, Holy Cross shot 50.7% from the field and 48.1% from beyond the arc, finishing 13-of-27 from three-point range. The Saints totaled 28 assists on 37 made baskets, showcasing strong ball movement throughout the contest.

Holy Cross moves to 7–12 overall and 2–9 in conference play. The Saints will look to carry the momentum forward as they head back on the road to face Calumet on January 24, with tipoff set for 4:00 PM.
