Garwood Earns CCAC Offensive Player of the Week Honors
Holy Cross College junior guard Joey Garwood (Elkhart, Ind.) has been named the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) Men's Basketball Offensive Player of the Week for the seven-day period ending Jan. 25, the league office announced Tuesday. Indiana University South Bend's Kyle Olagbegi (Frankfort, Ill.) was also recognized with Player of the Week honors.
Garwood put together a dominant offensive week, averaging 30.5 points per game while shooting an outstanding 68.8 percent from the field. He connected on 22-of-32 shots overall, knocked down 8-of-11 attempts from three-point range (72.7 percent), and was nearly perfect at the free throw line, converting 9-of-10 attempts. In addition to his scoring output, Garwood added 6 rebounds and 3 steals across the two contests.
The junior guard opened the week with a 30-point performance in a 108-104 overtime setback to Governors State University on Wednesday. Garwood missed just three shots in the game, shooting 11-of-14 from the floor (78.6 percent) and drilling five three-pointers on six attempts.
He followed that effort with an even stronger showing on Saturday, pouring in 31 points to lead Holy Cross to a 94-84 victory over Calumet College of St. Joseph. Garwood shot 11-of-18 from the field (61.1 percent), connected on 3 of his 5 attempts from beyond the arc, and went a perfect 6-for-6 at the free throw line.
Holy Cross finished the week with a 1-1 record and currently stands at 8-12 overall and 3-9 in CCAC play.
Congrats Joey!
