Saints Secure Strong Home Win Over Indiana Northwest
The Holy Cross men's basketball team delivered a complete performance on Saturday afternoon, defeating Indiana Northwest 77-71 at McKenna Arena. With the win, the Saints improve to 10-16 overall and 5-3 in conference play.
Holy Cross set the tone early, building an 11-point lead in the first half and carrying a 32-28 advantage into the break. Indiana Northwest fought back in the second half, but the Saints responded with timely shooting and consistent trips to the free-throw line to maintain control down the stretch.
Donovan Waleskowski led all scorers with an impressive 25-point outing, going 13-for-15 from the charity stripe while adding 5 rebounds. Callaghan Weatherspoon followed with 17 points and pulled down a team-high 11 rebounds to record a double-double. Jayden Sanders chipped in 16 points and 7 rebounds, while Donovan Mukes contributed 13 points and made his presence felt defensively with 6 steals.
Karl Birgisson added 9 rebounds to help the Saints win the battle on the glass, finishing with 45 team rebounds. Holy Cross also forced 11 turnovers and capitalized on second-chance opportunities, scoring 10 points off offensive boards.
The Saints shot 40.6% from the field and knocked down 24-of-29 free throws, proving crucial in securing the victory during a competitive second half.
