Golmei Clinches Thriller as Saints Outlast Huntington in Five-Hour Battle

The Holy Cross men's tennis team battled for nearly five hours on Saturday morning, earning a hard-fought 4-3 victory over Huntington. The full tie began at 9:10 AM and didn't wrap up until 1:45 PM, as the Saints outlasted their opponent in a back-and-forth contest.

After dropping the doubles point, Holy Cross responded in singles with determination across the lineup. The Saints picked up key straight-set victories to swing momentum their way, including strong performances at No. 2 and No. 1 singles. Oscar Wai earned a decisive win at the No. 1 spot. At the top of the lineup, Luca McManus delivered a steady performance at No. 2 singles, closing out his match in straight sets to keep the Saints within striking distance. These wins helped even the team score and set the stage for a dramatic finish.

With the team score hanging in the balance, it all came down to No. 5 singles. Naithaolin Golmei rose to the occasion, clinching the match in thrilling fashion with a third-set tiebreaker victory (6-4, 6-1, 7-6). After seeing the first set slip away, Golmei regrouped and showed tremendous composure to finish the job and seal the 4-3 team win.

The next match for the Saints will be at Indinan University: Indianapolis on Sunday March 1st.
