Balanced Scoring Pushes Saints Past Aquinas at McKenna Arena
The Holy Cross College Saints earned a solid 78–63 victory over Aquinas on Saturday evening at McKenna Arena, using a balanced offensive effort and strong second-half play to pull away from the visitors.
Holy Cross shot an efficient 52.7 percent from the field for the game and improved defensively after halftime, holding Aquinas to just 42.9 percent shooting in the second half. The Saints led 37–30 at the break before outscoring Aquinas 41–33 over the final 20 minutes.
Joey Garwood led all scorers for the Saints with 27 points, shooting 10-of-17 from the field and a perfect 7-for-7 from the free-throw line. Jayden Sanders followed closely behind with 26 points, adding 8 rebounds while shooting 8-of-14 from the floor and 8-of-9 at the charity stripe.
Holy Cross also received contributions across the lineup. Davide Brembilla added 10 points, while Donovan Waleskowski chipped in 7 points and helped anchor the defense in the paint. The Saints won the rebounding battle 38–34 and capitalized at the free-throw line, finishing the game at an impressive 89.5 percent.
Defensively, Holy Cross forced 10 turnovers and converted them into 16 points, while limiting Aquinas' opportunities from deep to just 23.1 percent shooting from three-point range.
After Aquinas briefly took a first-half lead, the Saints responded with composure and control, building their largest lead of the night at 16 points late in the second half to secure the win.
Holy Cross will look to build on the momentum as play continues on December 30th at home against Goshen. Tipoff is set for 4pm!
