Saint Fall in Overtime in Semifinals

Notre Dame, Ind.  The Holy Cross women's basketball faced Olivet Nazarene University this evening in McKenna Arena for the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference Semifinals.  Holy Cross jumped out to a 5-0 lead to begin the game, but ONU would take a 13-11 lead after the first quarter of action. The Saints struggled offensively in the second quarter and found themselves down 31-22 entering halftime. In the third quarter, Olivet was able to extend their advantage as they would lead the Saints 54-43 after the third quarter. Holy Cross found their offense in the final ten minutes of action and an offensive rebound putback by Grace Adams, with 23 seconds remaining, would knot the game up 65-65. ONU had a shot with one second remaining, but the game would head to overtime tied 65-65. The Saints took their first lead of the game 69-68 with 3:37 minutes remaining in OT with a good 3-pointer by Lilly Toppen. A Lauren Morris three gave the Saints a 72-68 lead with just over two minutes remaining. Olivet got within two, with two made free throws in their next offensive possession. The Tigers went one of two from the free throw line with nine seconds remaining to get them the 73-72 lead. After a HC timeout, Jordyn Smith had a 15-foot jumper that rolled out as the Saints would fall 73-72 in overtime. With the loss, Holy Cross finishes the season with a 16-14 overall record and 12-8 in league play while Olivet Nazarene moves to 16-14 and 11-9.
