Saints Fall on the Road at St. Ambrose
The Holy Cross College women's basketball team fell during a road contest to St. Ambrose University, 67–54, on Saturday afternoon at Lee Lohman Arena.
St. Ambrose came out strong in the opening quarter, using an early offensive surge to take a 20–9 lead after one. The Bees continued to build momentum in the second quarter, extending their advantage to 39–21 at halftime.
The Saints showed resilience coming out of the break, tightening things defensively in the third quarter, but St. Ambrose maintained control heading into the final period with a 53–31 lead. Holy Cross delivered its best offensive stretch in the fourth quarter, outscoring the Bees 23–14, but the comeback effort fell short.
Kaiden Hanley led the Saints with a game-high 31 points, shooting 10-of-17 from the field and a perfect 11-of-16 from the free throw line, while also pulling down 10 rebounds for a double-double. Allie Caldwell added 9 points, while Brock Bittermann chipped in 4 points and 5 rebounds off the bench.
Defensively, Holy Cross recorded 11 steals and 4 blocks, with Caldwell, Audrey Tallent, and Sincere Coleman-Francis each contributing multiple steals.
The Saints forced 24 turnovers and scored 14 points off those opportunities but were outpaced by St. Ambrose's shooting efficiency and points in the paint. Holy Cross finished the game shooting 29.6% from the field and 70.4% from the free throw line.
Holy Cross moves to 9–8 overall and 5–4 in conference play and will look to carry the strong fourth-quarter momentum into their next contest at home on Wednesday Jan 17th against Saint Xavier. Tipoff is set for 5:30PM.
